Dr. Christopher Gilmartin

Undergraduate: Villanova University, Bachelor of Science in Biology (B.S.)

Graduate: Southern California College of Optometry, Doctor of Optometry (O.D.)

Residency: University of Missouri, Cornea and Contact Lenses

Fellowship: Scleral Contact Lenses / Complex Contact Lens Design

Dr. Christopher Gilmartin earned a B.S in biology from Villanova University, and then went on to earn his O.D. degree from Southern California College of Optometry.  After earning his OD degree, Dr. Gilmartin pursued a residency in Cornea and Contact Lenses at University of Missouri, spending much of his time working with the most severely diseased and damaged corneas, usually referred from other optometrists and corneal surgeons.  During his post-graduate training, Dr. Gilmartin was exposed to the full range of eye disorders, including all

levels of complexity in contact lens fittings.  These included the full spectrum from routine fits on normal patients, to large-diameter, scleral prosthetic lenses for patients with the most severely-diseased eyes, such as those found in keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, post-transplant corneas, and patients with severe corneal trauma.

In 2010, Dr. Gilmartin joined the clinical faculty at the University of Missouri, instructing interns and residents in both clinical and academic settings, and conducting research.  During that time, he also worked in a private practice and hospital settings, providing a broad base of experience.  Dr. Gilmartin has developed a wide range of experience with scleral contact lenses, and is one of the few doctors in the United States to have earned a fellowship rating with the Scleral Lens Society.  He also takes special interest in designing contact lenses for patients with very high refractive errors, including high astigmatism, and he enjoys working with patients who are seeking multifocal or “bifocal” contacts.  He has authored several articles on the topic of contact lens design and fitting, and currently has a study awaiting publication.  He is a paid lecturer and advisory board member to several contact lens companies.

Dr. Pamela S. Gilmartin

Undergraduate: Michigan State University, Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology (B.S.)

Graduate: Michigan State College of Optometry, Doctor of Optometry (O.D.)

Residency: University of Missouri, Neuro-visual Rehabilitation, Pediatrics, and Vision Therapy

Dr. Pamela Gilmartin is a native of Traverse City, and earned a bachelor of science in Human Physiology from Michigan State University, before completing her Doctor of Optometry at Michigan State University.  She then pursued a residency in Neuro-visual Rehabilitation, Pediatrics, and Vision Therapy at the University of Missouri.  After completing her residency
training, she was invited to join the faculty at the University of Missouri, instructing interns and residents as a clinical and didactic professor.  She was involved in clinical research as an

investigator for the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG).  Dr. Gilmartin's primary areas of focus are Neuro-optometric diagnostics and rehabilitation, amblyopia, prism glasses, and orthoptics (vision therapy). She is a member of the Neuro-optometric Rehabilitation Association (NORA).
